LOCAL CLASSICAL – PENROD ARTS FAIR

August 22, 2022

Local Classical Featured Playlist – 08/22/22 – 09/04/22

This week we highlight the wonderful organization that is The Penrod Arts Fair. We’ll hear from this year’s Fair Chairman, Ronan Johnson, as well as Penrod Society member, Greg Heinle. Ronan spent most of his life on the West Coast (Seattle and Southern California) but moved to his wife’s hometown of Indianapolis 12 years ago.  He quickly discovered what an amazing city Indy is and loved how easy it is to get involved in the community and help out.  When he’s not coaching his kids’ sports teams or getting involved in the local community (through organizations like the Penrod Society, for which he is this year’s Fair Chairman, and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Indianapolis), he also is a corporate partner at a large law firm in town who helps people buy and sell companies and do other strategic things with money. Greg is an active member of the Penrod Society, which most notably organizes the annual Penrod Arts Fair. He co-leads the organization’s technology committee,  engages in securing sponsorship for the fair, and assists in allocating grants back to local Indiana arts-based non-profits. For the last three years, Greg has also been a member of the Classical Music Indy NOTE Community Advisory Board. During his free time, Greg enjoys racquetball, golf, rock climbing, and playing the saxophone.

The Penrod Arts Fair, also known as “Indiana’s Nicest Day” is one of the largest single-day arts fairs in the country. This year it will feature over 300 incredible Artists from all over the country. The Arts Fair is taking place at Newfields on Saturday, September 10th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Classical Music Indy is also happy to return to this year’s Arts Fair! “Penrod” pays homage to Penrod Schoefield, a literary character from Indianapolis novelist Booth Tarkington. In this week’s playlist, we’ll highlight some pieces centered on literary themes, works, and characters, as well as hear all the insights about the Arts Fair from Ronan and Greg. Tickets and more information about The Penrod Arts Fair are available at penrod.org.
