New Classical – Vox Clamantis

July 20, 2020

New Classical Featured Artist – 7/20/20-8/2/20

This week we feature music recorded by the vocal ensemble Vox Clamantis. Formed in 1996, Vox Clamantis comprises a diversity of musicians – singers, composers, instrumentalists, and conductors – who have a common interest in the Gregorian chant. So why feature an ensemble that specializes in chant, one of the oldest forms of music on New Classical? First, Gregorian chant is considered to be the foundation of all western art music. Second, Vox Clamantis also often performs contemporary music. Many Estonian composers, among them Arvo Pärt, Helena Tulve, Erkki-Sven Tüür, Tõnis Kaumann, and Sven Grünberg have written compositions for for the group.

Vox Clamantis has released many award-winning albums and their latest, “The Suspended Harp of Babel,” features music by 20th century Estonian composer Cyrillus Kreek and a couple other composers. Connect with CMI Streaming’s New Classical channel for music from that album, and much more.
