NEW CLASSICAL – RAIN WORTHINGTON

March 28, 2022

New Classical Featured Artist – 03/28/22 – 04/10/22

In this week’s playlist, we bring you works by American composer, Rain Worthington. Some influences in her works have included world music, minimalism, and romanticism. Inspired by the energy of the contemporary classical scene, she pursued her love of orchestral music and taught herself notation and orchestration. That alone is very impressive! Her orchestral writing has been described in the IAWM Journal as “a fusion of styles—ancient, medieval sounds expressed via modality and open sonorities, modernist minimalist ostinato, and classical approaches to basic ideas—to capture components of the human experience.” Some of her accolades have included grants from Meet The Composer, ASCAP, the American Music Center, NYFA, the American Composers Forum, and she had her Carnegie Hall debut in February 2020 on the DCINY concert series. Worthington also served as Artistic Administrator and Composer Advocate for the New York Women Composers from 2006 to 2021. We’ll explore works from her newly released album, Passages Through Time, and hear some insights directly from Rain in this playlist.
