NEW CLASSICAL – APOLLO CHAMBER PLAYERS

August 29, 2022

New Classical Featured Artist – 08/29/22 – 09/11/22

This week we bring you performances by the Apollo Chamber Players! Celebrating its 15th anniversary season, this Houston-based ensemble “recasts music for a diverse and multi-ethnic generation” (Strings Magazine) through globally-inspired programming and multicultural new music commissions. Winner of Chamber Music America’s prestigious Residency Partnership award, the quartet has performed for sold-out audiences at Carnegie Hall, and it holds the distinction of being the first American chamber ensemble to record and perform in Cuba. A passionate advocate of contemporary music and underrepresented composers, Apollo recently concluded a bold initiative to commission 20 new multicultural works by the end of the last decade. 20×2020 saw its triumphant conclusion in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic with digital world premieres and global recording collaborations. The project features a diverse roster of the world’s leading composers and instrumentalists including Jennifer Higdon, Libby Larsen, Pamela Z, Leo Brouwer, Jerod Impichchaachaaha’ Tate, and Vân Ánh (Vanessa) Võ.

Apollo reaches further into the community by partnering with schools, universities, at-risk youth centers, refugee and veterans service organizations, hospitals, airports, and public libraries, providing programs and seminars that impact a wider, underserved audience. We are excited to be featuring this great group and we’ll be hearing music from two of their albums, With Malice Toward None, and MoonStrike. Connect with Classical Music Indy Streaming’s New Classical channel to hear performances by the Apollo Chamber Players.

NEW CLASSICAL – VOCES8

In this week’s playlist, we’ll hear the soothing voices of the British vocal ensemble VOCES8. They are proud to inspire people through music and share the joy of singing. Touring globally, the group performs an extensive repertoire both in its a cappella concerts and in collaborations with leading orchestras, conductors and soloists. Versatility and a celebration of diverse musical expression are central to the ensemble’s performance and education ethos.
